I need new rears for winter (they're just about bald) and somebody is selling used tires. Just for clarification 245/40/19's will fit where 255/35/19's are supposed to go right?

I was just going to buy new all seasons for the rear at about $200 a pop, but these are winters and will run me $200-300 … gotta haggle. They have 10/32's tread left.

How wide are your wheels? Minor difference but still want to check.

So my speedo will be off by 2mph at expressway speeds? I can live with that.

Depends on the clearance of your front struts. Take a peek inside your current set and see how close they are to rubbing. These are going to be 3/4 of an inch shorter but over a 1/3 of an inch wider.

Slightly taller and skinnier, which is ideal for a winter tire. So long as your clearances aren't too tight or your snow to wet (sticking to the inner fenders)

Wait front struts? These would be going on the back & I have a lot clearance there.

One other thing to think of....most winter tread tires turn into all-season tires when the top layer of winter compound rubber wears off. At 10/32....you're good for about another 2 to 4/32nds before you get into the harder compound. (depending on the manufacturer)

Excellent calculator here, will tell you the exact differences in each dimension, % speedo will change, etc.

I should be good then …. my rear end has more clearance anyways for some reason.

Thanks! less than 2mph at 65 is good enough for me.

Yeah, it's being a bit nit picky, but hey, they are used tires and you never know how long they've been around.
